1. Austrian Standards International (ASI)

ASI is Austria's national standards body, responsible for developing and implementing national standards (ÖNORM) across various sectors. It also manages the certification of products, services, and management systems, providing reliable proof of quality and expertise. 

2. Akkreditierung Austria

Operating under the Federal Ministry for Labour and Economy, Akkreditierung Austria is the national accreditation body. It accredits conformity assessment bodies, including testing and calibration laboratories, certification bodies, and inspection bodies, ensuring they meet international standards. 

3. Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying (BEV)

BEV oversees legal metrology and ensures the accuracy of measurements in trade, health, and safety. It also designates and monitors notified bodies responsible for conformity assessment procedures under EU directives. 

4. Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection

This ministry is responsible for consumer protection and product safety. It provides guidelines and recommendations for assessing product conformity and maintains the Product Safety Board, which advises on product risk assessments.

Product Certification and Compliance Requirements

• Product Certification: Confirms that products meet specific requirements set out in standards, legislation, and regulations. This applies to all traders from EU Member States operating in Austria.

• Conformity Assessment: Manufacturers must carry out a risk analysis and ensure their products comply with applicable rules before placing them on the EU market. This involves technical documentation and, where required, third-party assessment by a notified body. 

EU Declaration of Conformity (DoC): A mandatory document that manufacturers or their authorized representatives must sign to declare that their products comply with EU requirements. By signing the DoC, they take full responsibility for the product's compliance.
