India MTCTE Compliance: DoT Restricts Multiple Applications for Same Model

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has issued an important clarification reinforcing India MTCTE compliance requirements. Manufacturers are no longer permitted to submit multiple MTCTE applications for telecom equipment bearing the same model number when a valid Certificate of Conformity Assessment already exists.

This notification strengthens regulatory oversight and promotes administrative consistency within India’s telecom certification framework.

India MTCTE Compliance: Prohibition on Duplicate Applications

Under the clarified rules, India MTCTE compliance requires that each model number maintain a single valid certification record. If a manufacturer submits multiple applications for the same certified model:

• All applications under process will be rejected.

• Certificates already granted under duplicate filings will be cancelled.

  
  

This measure prevents parallel certifications for identical products and reinforces traceability within the MTCTE system.

For manufacturers, strict internal control over model numbering and certification tracking is now essential to ensure full India MTCTE compliance.

Limited Exception: Addition of Associated Models

The DoT has provided a narrow exception within the India MTCTE compliance framework.

Multiple applications may be accepted only when:

• The manufacturer applies for the addition of Associated Models;

• A formal declaration is submitted with the application; and

• There is no change to the hardware (HW) or software (SW) version of the already certified equipment.

  
  

If any technical modification exists, a separate certification pathway may be required.
