Bolivia Telecom Homologation: ATT Updates Mandatory Equipment List (2026)

On January 28, 2026, the Autoridad de Regulación y Fiscalización de Telecomunicaciones y Transportes (ATT) of Bolivia updated the official list of telecommunications equipment subject to mandatory Type Approval, reinforcing the national framework for Bolivia telecom homologation.

The update clarifies which devices must undergo technical verification and obtain certification before being imported, commercialized, or distributed in the Bolivian market. This development strengthens Bolivia telecom homologation controls and reinforces regulatory oversight over radiofrequency use and public network integrity.

Bolivia Telecom Homologation: Equipment Subject to Mandatory Type Approval

Under current regulations, the following categories require prior certification:

1. Terminal Equipment

Mobile Terminals: Smartphones, mobile phones, tablets with SIM slots, and devices operating on public mobile networks.

Satellite Terminals: Satellite phones, satellite modems, and portable VSAT antennas.

Fixed Wireless Terminals (WLL): Equipment used for wireless telephony services.

2. Data Transmission and Networking Equipment

Wireless Access Points (WAP): Routers, bridges, and Wi-Fi-enabled switches.

Modems and Gateways: ADSL, VDSL, fiber optic (ONT/ONU), and cable modems with wireless interfaces.

RFID Equipment: Readers, interrogators, and active identification tags.

3. Broadcasting and Transmission Equipment

Radio Transmitters: FM, AM, and shortwave broadcasting transmitters.

Television Transmitters: Digital (DVB-T2) and analog transmission systems.

Microwave Links: Point-to-point and point-to-multipoint systems.

Satellite Earth Stations: Fixed or mobile earth stations for signal transmission and reception.

4. Short-Range Devices (SRD) and Low Power Equipment

Bluetooth Class 1 devices, remote controls, wireless microphones, telemetry and telecommand systems, and radar equipment (maritime, aeronautical, automotive).

5. Other Telecommunications Equipment

GPS trackers with cellular modules (GPRS/3G/4G/5G), signal boosters, medical telemetry systems, and wireless security equipment operating in regulated frequency bands.

Regulatory Implications for Market Access

From a legal engineering perspective, Bolivia telecom homologation is a pre-market authorization mechanism designed to ensure:

  • Compliance with national frequency allocation

  • Technical safety and electromagnetic compatibility

  • Lawful use of radio spectrum

  • Protection of public telecommunications networks

Manufacturers, importers, and distributors must secure ATT Type Approval before customs clearance and commercialization. Non-compliance may result in product seizure, fines, or market withdrawal.

Early regulatory assessment and documentation alignment remain critical for companies planning to introduce RF-enabled products into Bolivia.
