The country is part of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and participates in the GSO conformity system, which includes the Gulf Conformity Mark (G-mark) for specific product categories.


Key Authorities:

  • Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) – Oversees standards, conformity assessment, and consumer protection.

  • Oman Standards and Metrology Directorate (OSMD) – Develops Omani and GSO standards, coordinates testing and inspection programs.

  • Ministry of Health (MoH) – Regulates pharmaceuticals, medical devices, cosmetics, and food supplements.

  • Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) – Manages type approval and RF regulation for telecom and wireless equipment.

  • Royal Oman Police – Directorate General of Customs – Verifies import documentation and ensures regulated goods comply with national laws.


Key Compliance Elements:

  • G-mark Certification:

    • Required for selected high-risk categories:

      • Toys

      • Low-voltage electrical equipment

    • Products must be tested to GSO technical regulations and carry the G-mark.

    • Conformity assessment must be done by a GSO Notified Body.

  • Product Registration (MoH):

    • Mandatory for:
