1. Gambia Standards Bureau (TGSB)

TGSB is the national standards body responsible for developing, promoting, and enforcing national standards. It oversees product labeling, certification, and conformity assessments to ensure products meet established quality and safety benchmarks.

2. Food Safety and Quality Authority (FSQA)

FSQA regulates the safety and quality of food and agricultural products. It ensures that such products meet safety and efficacy requirements before entering the market.

3. Medicines Control Agency (MCA)

MCA oversees the regulation of medicines and related products, ensuring they meet safety and efficacy standards before being approved for importation and sale.

4. Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA)

PURA manages the type approval process for telecommunications and electronic equipment, ensuring compliance with technical standards before devices are authorized for sale or use in The Gambia.

5. Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA)

GRA manages the import and export processes, ensuring that goods comply with national regulations and that appropriate duties and taxes are applied.

Product Certification and Compliance Requirements

  • Labeling Requirements: Products must be labeled in English, providing clear information about the product, including its name, origin, manufacturer details, usage instructions, and any safety warnings. FSQA evaluates labels to ensure compliance with national standards.

  • Type Approval for Telecommunications Equipment: All telecommunications and electronic devices must obtain type approval from PURA. This process verifies that products meet national technical standards and are safe for use.

  • Health and Safety Regulations: Medicines and related products must be registered and approved by the MCA. This includes undergoing necessary testing and certification to ensure safety and efficacy.

  • Agricultural Product Regulations: Agricultural and food products must comply with safety and quality standards enforced by FSQA. This includes inspections and certifications to prevent the spread of diseases and ensure food safety.

  • Import Documentation: Importers must provide necessary documentation, including certificates of conformity, invoices, and packing lists, to the GRA for clearance. Certain products, such as petroleum products, require import licenses issued by the relevant authorities.

  • Environmental Compliance: Products that could affect the environment, such as chemicals and waste, may be subject to regulations enforced by relevant environmental authorities.
