1. Agence des Normes et de la Qualité (ANOR)
ANOR is the national body responsible for developing, implementing, and promoting Cameroonian standards. It manages the standardization and certification system and enforces mandatory technical regulations.
2. Ministry of Mines, Industry and Technological Development (MINMIDT)
This ministry supervises industrial development and supports conformity assessment activities for manufactured goods and industrial products.
3. Agence de Régulation des Télécommunications (ART)
ART regulates telecommunications equipment and services. It manages the type approval process for telecom and electronic devices entering the Cameroonian market.
4. Ministry of Public Health
Responsible for setting standards related to pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and food safety, particularly in collaboration with ANOR and customs authorities.
5. Ministry of Commerce
Oversees consumer protection laws, labeling requirements, and price control measures for various consumer goods.
Product Certification and Compliance Requirements
Standards and Certification: Products must comply with relevant Cameroonian standards or internationally recognized equivalents. Certification may be mandatory depending on the product type.
Conformity Assessment Program (PECAE): Cameroon operates a pre-export verification program where certain regulated products must undergo conformity assessment in the country of origin before shipment. A Certificate of Conformity (CoC) is required for customs clearance.
Type Approval for Telecom Equipment: Telecommunications equipment must be type approved by ART. This ensures that the equipment meets technical standards and does not interfere with local networks.
Labeling Requirements: All products sold in Cameroon must be labeled in French or English. Labels must include product name, origin, manufacturer/importer information, net content, usage instructions, and production/expiration dates where applicable.
Market Surveillance: Authorities conduct inspections at borders and in the market to ensure that only compliant and safe products are sold. Non-compliant products may be confiscated or subject to penalties.
