Afghanistan National Standards Authority (ANSA)

ANSA operates under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and is responsible for developing and enforcing national standards across multiple sectors, including food, construction, and manufacturing. It plays a pivotal role in setting safety, quality, labeling, and packaging requirements to align with international practices, thereby facilitating both domestic and international trade.


Ministry of Public Health (MoPH)

The MoPH oversees public health matters, including the regulation of food safety and nutrition standards. It collaborates with other governmental bodies and international organizations to monitor foodborne illnesses and address nutritional deficiencies, ensuring the safety and quality of food products consumed by the Afghan population.


Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL)

MAIL is tasked with regulating agricultural practices to ensure food safety and quality from the production level. It manages the use of pesticides, fertilizers, and other agricultural inputs, promoting sustainable practices to enhance food security and improve the livelihoods of Afghan farmers.


Afghanistan Food and Drug Authority (AFDA)

AFDA is responsible for the regulation and oversight of pharmaceuticals and medical devices. It ensures that medical products meet safety and efficacy standards before they are approved for market access. The pre-market approval process involves planning, licensing, marketing permits, and the oversight of clinical trials.


Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) & Afghanistan Telecom Regulatory Authority (ATRA)

MCIT, along with ATRA, regulates the telecommunications sector. They are responsible for granting certifications for telecom and IT products intended for the Afghan market. The certification process often references CE EU directives and test reports based on European Union standards.
