1. Georgian National Agency for Standards and Metrology (GeoSTM)

GeoSTM is the national standards body. It develops and adopts standards, manages metrology systems, and supports conformity assessment infrastructure.


2. Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development

This ministry oversees technical regulation policy, implementation of international trade standards, and harmonization of Georgian laws with EU frameworks (especially under the EU-Georgia Association Agreement).


3. Georgian National Food Agency (NFA)

NFA regulates food safety and quality, including inspection and certification of imported and domestically produced food products.


4. State Regulation Agency for Medical Activities

Under the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs, this agency handles the approval and monitoring of pharmaceuticals and medical devices.


5. Communications Commission of Georgia (ComCom)

ComCom regulates telecommunications and broadcasting, including the type approval of telecom and radio frequency equipment.


6. Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance

The customs department checks imports for compliance with labeling, documentation, and technical regulations.


Product Certification and Compliance Requirements

  • Standards and Technical Regulations: Georgia uses a combination of national and adopted international (especially ISO and European) standards. For regulated products, compliance with technical regulations is mandatory.

  • Conformity Assessment: Depending on the product, conformity may require testing, inspection, or certification from an accredited Georgian or foreign conformity assessment body.

  • Product Registration: Pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and health supplements must be registered with the relevant health authority before import or sale. Dossier submission and safety documentation are required.

  • Telecom Type Approval: Devices using radio frequencies or telecom networks must receive type approval from ComCom prior to market access.

  • Labeling Requirements: Labels must be in Georgian and include:

    • Product name

    • Manufacturer or importer details

    • Country of origin

    • Usage instructions

    • Expiry date (if applicable)

    • Safety warnings and regulatory marks (if required)

  • Import Documentation: Required documents typically include:

    • Commercial invoice

    • Certificate of conformity or compliance

    • Technical documents for regulated products

    • Product registration (for medical/health-related items)

  • Market Surveillance: Authorities conduct inspections and testing to monitor ongoing product safety. Non-compliant items may face fines, recalls, or removal from the market.
