2. NBN (Bureau voor Normalisatie / Bureau de Normalisation)

NBN is the Belgian national standards body responsible for developing and publishing standards in Belgium. It represents Belgium in international standardization organizations like ISO and CEN.

3. BELAC (Belgian Accreditation Body)

BELAC is the sole national accreditation body in Belgium, operating under FPS Economy. It accredits conformity assessment bodies, including testing and calibration laboratories, certification bodies, and inspection bodies, ensuring they meet international standards.

4. FAMHP (Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products)

6. NCCA (National Cybersecurity Certification Authority)

The NCCA oversees and monitors compliance with cybersecurity certification schemes issued by conformity assessment bodies. It can act on complaints and misuse of certifications to ensure regulatory compliance.

Product Certification and Compliance Requirements

  • CE Marking: For many products, especially those covered by EU directives, CE marking is mandatory. It indicates that a product complies with EU safety, health, and environmental requirements. Manufacturers must carry out conformity assessments, compile technical documentation, and issue an EU declaration of conformity.

  • Conformity Assessment: Manufacturers are responsible for ensuring that their products meet applicable EU rules. This involves carrying out risk analyses and ensuring compliance during both the design and production phases.

  • Technical Documentation: Manufacturers must compile technical documentation that demonstrates their product's compliance with applicable requirements. This documentation must be available to national authorities upon request.

  • Accredited Certification: Certification bodies accredited by BELAC provide conformity assessments for various products. Accreditation ensures that these bodies operate competently and consistently.
