1. National Body for Standards and Metrology (SARM)

SARM, operating under the Ministry of Economy, is Armenia's national standards body. It develops and publishes national standards (AST) and maintains a comprehensive repository that includes international (ISO), European (EN), and interstate (GOST) standards. SARM also specifies conformity assessment procedures and coordinates six technical committees across various sectors.

2. National Accreditation Body (ARMNAB)

ARMNAB is responsible for accrediting conformity assessment bodies, including testing laboratories and certification entities. Accreditation ensures that these bodies are competent to carry out their tasks, thereby maintaining the integrity of the conformity assessment process.

3. State Service for Food Safety

This agency oversees the safety and quality of food and agricultural products. It implements sanitary and phytosanitary measures, conducts inspections, and enforces compliance with food safety standards to protect public health.

4. Ministry of Health

The Ministry of Health regulates pharmaceuticals and medical devices. It requires certification for imported vitamins and other pharmaceutical products to ensure they meet safety and efficacy standards.

5. Armenian Customs Service

Operating under the State Revenue Committee, the Armenian Customs Service ensures that imported and exported goods comply with national and international regulations. It plays a crucial role in enforcing product compliance at the borders.

Regional and International Collaboration

Armenia is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), which includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. As a member, Armenia adheres to the EAEU's unified technical regulations and standards. Products that comply with these regulations receive the Eurasian Conformity (EAC) mark, indicating they meet the necessary safety and quality requirements.

Product Certification and Compliance Requirements

  • EAC Certification: Products subject to EAEU technical regulations must obtain EAC certification or a declaration of conformity. This certification is mandatory for products to be marketed within the EAEU member states.

  • National Standards: For products not covered by EAEU regulations, Armenia's national standards apply. SARM provides information on these standards and the conformity assessment procedures required.

Labeling Requirements: Products must be labeled in Armenian and include information such as product name, manufacturer/importer details, weight, dimensions, and expiration dates. For food products, labels must also list ingredients, storage instructions, and any pertinent consumer warnings.
